Aquavit is probably as important in the Scandinavian countries of Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Norway as it is for the Scots of whiskey. It is considered a national drink in these countries. Aalborg Aquavit was founded in 1846 in the Danish town of Oelsen and Tietgen. To make their aquavit, Aalborg uses a grain distillate flavored with various herbs and spices, including dill and cumin. After distillation, the spirit is stored for some time in American white oak barrels. This edition was launched in 1946 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of "Aalborg Taffel Akvavit", the first spirit drink to market Aalborg and in honor of its inventor, Isidor Henius.
