Count Hubert de Givenchy, who came from a French noble family and was therefore called the “aristocrat of fashion” by the press, founded his own fashion brand called Givenchy for exclusives in 1952, after a few years of collaboration with other French designers in Paris near the Parc Monceau Haute couture mode. With combinations of white puff-sleeved blouses with a turned-up collar (the “Bettina” blouse named after his model Bettina Graziani) and narrow, long pencil skirts, which - due to a lack of financial resources - he tailored from pure cotton and other less noble materials, de Givenchy conquered the market the exclusive Parisian fashion heaven. After his initial success, he used more noble materials, but printed them with motifs unusual for haute couture, such as fruits, vegetables or animals. Typical of Givenchy fashion were bold, bright colors and high waists alongside luxurious robes with floral patterns, oversized hats and simple, elegant designs.
