Do you love smoky, intense malt whiskeys? Then come to our ZEGG stores in Samnaun Engadin and discover the unique whiskey Laphroaig from Scotland.
At the furthest edge of the Scottish Whiskey landscape lies the island of Islay, where legend has it that Irish monks introduced the art of distillation. In the hands of the islanders, secluded from the rest of the world, illegal distillery flourished, much to the chagrin of tax collectors. Finally, the law was relaxed and various whiskey producers settled officially on the island, including the farmers Donald and Alexander Johnston, who opened in 1815 their own distillery on the south coast of the island. Laphroaig, named after its surroundings, "wide valley in the bay".
For many it is an acquired taste, but it rewards endurance. The palate is smoky with a long aftertaste. If you like Islay Smokey whiskeys, you will love them.
