The Smirnoff vodka distillery was founded in Moscow by Pyotr Arsenyevich Smirnov in 1886 and was the first distillery in the world to use charcoal for filtering. The natural pure Smirnoff Vodka is distilled three times before it is brought onto the market. In addition to this complex distillation, Smirnoff uses a very special process to refine its products - charcoal. The coal comes from the birch wood during this filtration. By heating the activated carbon together with the vodka, the unwanted substances are bound to the coal. Minerals, salts and lime, however, remain in the product, creating a first-class vodka.
