Spyros Metaxa built his first distillery in 1888 in Piraeus, the port of Athens. His unique spirit was soon exported to the entire Mediterranean.
Although Metaxa was first compared to cognac and later to brandy, it is impossible to categorize it clearly. Today, he is considered to be what he really is: a unique, amber-colored spirit that is both gentle and yet powerful.
